Questions, bugs, or feature requests? Email [email protected] and a real person will reply. The full manual is inside the app: Help ▸ Softscape Help on the Mac, Settings ▸ Softscape Help on iPhone and iPad. The most common questions are answered below.

Getting started

What does Softscape need access to, and why?

Reminders and Calendar. Every task in Softscape is a real reminder and every event or time block is a real calendar event, so the app cannot show you anything without both. The first run asks for each with a card explaining what it is for, then the system's own prompt.

If you declined, open System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Reminders (and Calendars) on the Mac, or Settings ▸ Apps ▸ Softscape on iPhone, turn Softscape on, then quit and reopen the app.

Which devices does Softscape run on?

Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, on macOS 26, iOS 26, iPadOS 26 and watchOS 26 or later. One download covers all of them, and the iPhone app includes the Watch app.

Will my existing Reminders lists show up?

Yes. Every list becomes a project and every reminder a task, with nothing to import. Softscape adds what Reminders leaves out: start dates, sequential projects, contexts, time blocks and a review. Changes you make in Reminders or Calendar show up in Softscape, and the other way round.

Can I see the welcome tour again?

Help ▸ Welcome Tour on the Mac, or Settings ▸ Welcome Tour on iPhone and iPad. Permissions already decided are skipped.

Tasks and Today

Why isn't a task showing in Today?

Today shows only tasks a date summons: due today, overdue, or with a start date that has arrived, plus the tasks a running time block hands over. A task with no dates needs a start date, or a block for its context or project. A task with only a future deadline waits for the day. A task behind another task in a sequential project waits for that task.

A task I added in Reminders has no context, or is out of order.

Expected. Reminders does not know about contexts or Softscape's order, so a task made there arrives untagged at the end of its project. Drag it onto a context, or type @name into its title.

What is a context, and why only one per task?

A context is the mode of work a task needs: a place, a tool, a kind of attention. Each task has one, so a time block for that context can hand Today exactly the tasks that fit it. Contexts live in Softscape only and are invisible in Reminders.

Calendar and time blocks

I dropped something on the calendar and got "No Time Blocks Calendar".

Blocks are ordinary events kept on one dedicated calendar. Softscape creates a calendar named Time Blocks on first launch if it can, but some accounts (Google in particular, and iCloud when iCloud Calendars is off) refuse app-created calendars. Make a calendar by hand in Apple Calendar, in any account you like, and choose it in Settings ▸ Time Blocks Calendar. The choice is per device, so pick the same calendar on each one.

I made a block and can't see it.

The active calendar set does not include the Time Blocks calendar. Switch to Everything in the calendar set menu, or add the calendar to the set in Settings ▸ Calendar Sets. A running block still hands over its tasks in Today whether or not it is drawn.

Why is a block in Softscape not a task?

By design. A block is an intention to work on a context, project or task for a stretch of time. During the block, Today surfaces that target's available tasks; tasks never leave their lists and nothing needs cleaning up afterwards. Blocks are plain events, so you can move, resize or delete them in Apple Calendar too.

The weather isn't showing on the calendar.

Weather is part of the unlock and is off until you turn it on in Settings ▸ Weather, either for your current location or for a place chosen by name. Using your location asks for the Location permission the first time. Forecasts come from Apple Weather and need a network connection.

Syncing between devices

How does sync work?

Tasks and events already sync on their own, because they are Reminders and Calendar items in whatever accounts you use. Softscape's own notes about them (project types, task order, contexts, block links, calendar sets, daily notes) sync through your private iCloud when Settings ▸ iCloud ▸ Sync via iCloud is on, which it is by default. There is no Softscape account; your Apple Account is the account.

Changes from my iPhone take minutes to show up on the Mac.

macOS fetches Reminders from iCloud when pushed, and pushes to an idle Mac are batched. Bringing the Reminders app to the front makes it fetch right away, and Softscape updates the same second.

Projects, contexts or notes differ between devices.

Check Settings ▸ iCloud on each device: Sync via iCloud should be on and the status connected, and every device must be signed into the same iCloud account. Changing the switch takes effect at the next launch.

The trial and the unlock

What's free and what does the unlock add?

The download is free and for fourteen days it is the whole app. After that, everything the tour teaches stays free: capture, the Inbox, Today and every view, all your lists as projects, start dates, blocks for a context, Review, the daily note, alarms, widgets, the Watch, Siri and Shortcuts, and up to three contexts.

The unlock buys room rather than features: unlimited contexts, calendar sets, blocks for a single project or task, routines (blocks that repeat), sub-projects, hidden events, and weather. Nothing you made during the trial is hidden or taken back; the limit is on making more.

Is the unlock a subscription?

No. It is one purchase through the App Store, and it covers your Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch together. Buy once, yours for good.

When does the trial start, and does each device get its own?

The trial starts when the welcome cards and the tour are done, not when the app is first opened. It runs for fourteen days across every device signed into the same iCloud account, so a second device joins the trial the first one started. Settings ▸ Unlock says how many days are left.

How does Family Sharing work?

The unlock is Family Sharing eligible. After you buy it, anyone in your Apple Family group can install Softscape and use the unlock at no charge. Each family member keeps their own tasks.

I bought the unlock but another device shows the free version.

Open Settings ▸ Unlock on that device and choose Restore Purchase. Make sure it is signed into the Apple Account that bought the unlock, or, for Family Sharing, into an account in the same family group.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com using the Apple Account that bought the unlock.

Alarms and notifications

Notifications don't appear.

Check Settings ▸ Alarm Notifications is on, and that Softscape is allowed in System Settings ▸ Notifications (or Settings ▸ Notifications on iPhone). Reminders' and Calendar's own alerts are separate and unaffected. A deadline with no time of day is notified by Reminders at 9 AM.

I get two alerts for one alarm.

One is Softscape's and one is Reminders' or Calendar's. Turn off Settings ▸ Alarm Notifications to keep only Apple's.

The Quick Capture hotkey does nothing on the Mac.

Softscape must be running for ⌃⌥⌘Space to be registered. If another app or a system feature has claimed the same combination, Softscape cannot take it; File ▸ Quick Capture still opens the panel from within the app.

Data and privacy

What data does Softscape collect about me?

None. Softscape has no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no servers that receive your data. Your tasks and events are in Reminders and Calendar, and Softscape's own notes about them are in your private iCloud. See the Privacy Policy for the full statement.

How do I remove Softscape's data?

Your reminders and events are yours and stay in Reminders and Calendar whatever you do with Softscape. To remove Softscape's own notes about them, delete the app, and to clear your iCloud copy too, turn off Softscape under Settings ▸ [Your Name] ▸ iCloud ▸ Apps Using iCloud and choose to delete the data when asked. The Time Blocks calendar is an ordinary calendar you can delete in Apple Calendar.
